How to Download & Convert Audible Books, Podcasts and Originals

Aubile is the largest audiobook producer and provider in the United States. We can purchase and stream various forms of spoken word content such as audiobooks, podcasts, Audible Originals, guided wellness, sleep tracks, meditation programs and more within the Audible app.

Inconveniences of Audible

Though the selections of audiobooks, podcasts and Audible Originals are plentiful in the Audible catalog, there are still some inconveniences when we are streaming, listening to, and downloading Audible titles:

1. Currently, on Windows 10 or earlier, you can only listen to Audible books and other audio entertainment at audible.com with Audible Cloud Player in your browser.
2. As of May 2021, the Audible Cloud Player no longer worked on Microsoft Internet Explorer. Currently, this Cloud Player is only compatible with Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox, Apple Safari and Microsoft Edge.
3. As of July 31, 2022, the Audible app for Windows 10 has been deprecated and can no longer be used to access Audible or listen to titles in your Library. Currently, the Audible app for Windows is only available on Windows 11.
4. The Audible app for iOS is unavailable in the App Store in some countries or regions.
5. The Audible supported MP3 players are limited to 6 models: SanDisk ClipJam MSC, Bones Milestone 312, Victor Reader Stream MSC 2, SanDisk Clip Sport Plus, SanDisk Clip Sport Go, Bones Milestone 212. That’s to say, you cannot listen to Audible books on other MP3 player devices.
6. If you need to transfer Audible titles to the above supported MP3 players, you need to install the AudibleSync app, however, this app is only available on Windows 10 and 11.
7. The Audible app only works on iPhone 6s or higher, and iPad mini 4 or higher.
8. You’ll lose access to Audible tittles you’ve selected from the Audible Plus Catalog without using credits at the end of your final billing period, if you cancel the subscription.
9. Old Kindle models like Kindle Keyboard and Kindle Touch are not supported by Audible
10. If a title was removed from Audible Plus Catalog, it won’t be included in your membership any more. You may have to purchase that title with cash or credit if you’d like to own it. If you cannot find any purchase options, Audible no longer carries the title, you lose the title completely.
11. Some Audible books may be unavailable in your country or region.
12. The downloaded Audible audiobooks and podcasts cannot be played back with players or devices other than Audible-ready devices.
13. The downloaded Audible audiobooks are in “Enhanced” format with the .aax file extension, which is DRM encrypted. The previous “Format 4” format with the .aa file extension has been phased out as of June 2020. It also includes unauthorized-playback prevention by means of an Audible username and password.

The Audible downloader Internet Downloader Manager is much cheaper than MusicFab Audible Converter in price. However, the Audible books downloaded with IDM may not be in the file format you prefer so that you have to turn to a free video converter like Handbrake or Wondershare Free Video Converter to transcode the downloaded audios. In addition, IDM won’t let you download copy-protected Audible audiobooks and podcasts, while MusicFab Audible Converter can break the limits. Currently, IDM is only available for Windows PC, but MusicFab Audible Converter supports both Windows and macOS.
